Job Description
Wise seeks a Senior Product Engineer II to join its Partner Experience team in London. This on-site, full-time position involves designing and operating the infrastructure that enables enterprise partners, such as banks and software companies, to deploy cross-border payment solutions quickly through the Wise API.
The role centers on the Partner Experience group, which builds the systems allowing major financial institutions to oversee transfers, address compliance inquiries, monitor fraud, and manage user teams. Much of the work requires architecting new greenfield solutions and backend microservices from scratch rather than maintaining legacy systems. Responsibilities span creating authentication pathways, communication channels, audit logging, and role-based access controls while collaborating closely with compliance, financial crime, and product departments.
This position suits an experienced backend engineer who understands the security, reliability, and audit requirements associated with enterprise software. The starting salary range is GBP 87,500 to 111,000 per year, accompanied by restricted stock units.
Responsibilities
- Develop backend microservices for partner features including fraud reporting, case management, audit logs, and transaction visibility
- Build role-based access control systems and permission structures for the partner portal
- Implement SAML 2.0 single sign-on integrations for enterprise partners
- Extend communication layer services to manage new workflows and case types
- Design partner-facing application programming interface endpoints with a focus on usability and consistency
- Collaborate with compliance, financial crime, and know-your-customer teams to integrate sanctions inquiry workflows and fraud reporting
- Conduct technical discovery, assess dependencies, and generate design documentation
- Troubleshoot and support production environments when live issues occur
Requirements
- Experience designing, building, and deploying backend microservices using Java and Spring Boot
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture, domain-driven design, and microservices patterns
- Commercial experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs alongside OpenAPI or Swagger and OAuth2
- Ability to model relational database data, manage indexing, and tune query performance in MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Capability to map technical landscapes, analyze dependencies, and document findings clearly
- Independence in delivering work and managing tasks without constant oversight
- Understanding of large enterprise software needs regarding security, reliability, auditability, and compliance
Qualifications
- Experience developing B2B software-as-a-service products, partner platforms, or enterprise portals
- Familiarity with cross-border money movement and payment systems
- Background with identity and access management technologies including SAML, SPIFFE, OAuth2, and single sign-on
- Exposure to Kafka or alternative event streaming platforms
- Experience working inside a platform team that serves internal or external users
- Skill in explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences like product managers and compliance teams
- Interest in foreign exchange, international finance, and payments infrastructure
