Gradient AI is seeking a Senior QA Data Engineer for a fully remote position. The company provides artificial intelligence solutions tailored for the Group Health and Property and Casualty insurance sectors, utilizing a SaaS platform and a large data lake. In this role, the selected candidate will establish next-generation data testing and quality protocols, ensuring the trustworthiness of customer data that feeds company products. The position suits an analytical, detail-oriented professional with experience in backend automated testing and data pipeline quality assurance.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain an automated data quality suite running on data refreshes through Airflow
- Define tests as code using dbt tests, Soda, or custom SQL managed via version control and CI
- Validate incoming data loads for sequencing, completeness, and schema before processing
- Reconcile data across Databricks layers and downstream pricing tools at multiple hierarchy levels
- Detect anomalies, edge cases, and unexpected historical changes between data loads
- Establish severity levels, customer-specific overrides, and gate promotion with quality reports
- Monitor quality metrics to eliminate flaky checks and address coverage gaps
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure new pipelines ship with built-in checks and provide risk feedback
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in quality assurance with an emphasis on backend automated testing
- Hands-on background building automated data tests utilizing frameworks like Soda or dbt
- Strong proficiency in SQL, familiarity with Python, and exposure to Spark SQL
- Experience working with orchestration tools such as Airflow and lakehouse environments like Databricks and Delta Lake
- Familiarity with version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Solid understanding of functional, integration, and regression testing principles applied to data pipelines
- Strong root-cause analysis, debugging, and communication skills
Qualifications
- Experience with healthcare or health insurance data
- Familiarity with data observability tools or anomaly detection
- Knowledge of front-end test automation tools such as Playwright or Cypress
