Job Description

Turing is recruiting a Senior Research Engineer for its research group. The listing marks the position as on-site and does not name a city. The role sits between research and engineering, aiming to advance frontier AI systems through hands-on work on data, algorithms, evaluation and training.

The company produces large datasets and reinforcement learning environments used to refine models for leading AI labs and enterprises. Those environments simulate long, multi-step tasks in domains like finance, sales, retail, dev tooling, collaboration and customer support. The posting names three environment families: software engineering and coding agents, user-interface environments for computer-use and browser-use agents, and environments built on the MCP protocol for function-calling agents across business and consumer applications.

The engineer designs and runs careful experiments, builds prototypes and tooling at research grade, and collaborates with colleagues in research, engineering, product and operations to turn promising ideas into scalable applications. Topics span synthetic and agentic data creation, RL, post-training, model interpretation, benchmarks and evaluation. Findings are meant to improve Turing's products and platforms, and results are shared via reports, papers, open-source releases or conference talks.

The posting asks for a PhD or Master's in AI, machine learning, computing or a neighbouring discipline, or research experience of comparable standing. Candidates should understand machine learning well and bring hands-on skill in designing experiments and assessing models with current AI tooling. Research background in synthetic or agentic data, reinforcement learning, post-training or evaluation is expected, along with strong programming and the ability to iterate quickly. Listed compensation is $250,000 to $350,000 on-target earnings plus equity.

Responsibilities

  • Probe the strengths and weaknesses of frontier AI systems
  • Frame research questions that could inform products and technical strategy
  • Build research-grade datasets, experiments, prototypes and evaluation frameworks
  • Analyse outcomes carefully and draw only the conclusions the evidence supports
  • Carry findings into product and platform improvements
  • Share results through reports, papers and conference work
  • Mentor colleagues and take part in peer review

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's in AI, machine learning, computing or a neighbouring discipline, or research standing of comparable depth
  • Solid grounding in machine learning and experience designing experiments
  • Prior work on synthetic or agentic data, RL, post-training, evaluation or benchmarks
  • Strong programming and quick iteration in a research setting
  • Sound judgement on experimental rigour, data quality and reproducibility
  • Clear communication across research and engineering teams
