Lockwood is seeking a Senior Scientific Director - Publications (Oncology) to join its medical communications team. In this position, the professional oversees the creation, planning, and management of scientific content for assigned accounts in various therapeutic areas. Lockwood partners with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies to deliver holistic, science-backed strategies and medical communications programs focused on transparency, scientific value, and clinical relevance.
This role suits an experienced scientific leader with a strong background in oncology publications and a track record of guiding content development. Team members at Lockwood operate through a flexible structure that allows many staff members to work from their home locations, though an on-site option at the Stamford, Connecticut headquarters is also available.
The person in this role will collaborate closely with the Group Scientific Director to offer strategic medical communication advice aimed at meeting brand objectives. Responsibilities include managing writing tasks, overseeing Associate Scientific Directors, directing background research, and ensuring data accuracy. Candidates should be comfortable working autonomously, meeting strict delivery schedules, and applying established ethical guidelines and medical editorial standards.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Group Scientific Director to deliver strategic medical communication recommendations that align with brand goals
- Independently lead the execution of content creation activities
- Supervise Associate Scientific Directors
- Coordinate with internal and freelance team members to handle writing and related tasks such as background research, data verification, and reference annotation
Requirements
- Five or more years of relevant professional experience with medical publications including manuscripts, posters, abstracts, podium presentations, scientific platforms, and publication extenders
- Oncology experience
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interpret and analyze scientific data, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently, and manage projects under strict deadlines
- Familiarity with standard professional medical editorial processes such as AMA style
- Working knowledge of ethical guidelines including ICMJE and GPP2022
Qualifications
- Advanced science degree such as a PhD, PharmD, or MD
- CMPP certification
- Experience with multiple myeloma
