Job Description
Canonical's Security Operations team is recruiting a Senior or Staff engineer to design, build and run a first-rate Security Operations Center. The successful applicant will lead, coach and deliver strong individual work toward that aim. The post is full-time and remote, and no particular region is named. Beyond protecting Canonical's own digital estate, the role offers scope to speak at industry conferences, pass threat intelligence on to the broader community and publish open source security tools.
The job blends four disciplines: classic SOC work covering monitoring, threat hunting and incident response; security engineering to test and harden Canonical's platforms and products; software development to create bespoke tooling and platforms; and site reliability work to roll out, maintain and automate security tools. Duties include leading operations and engineering, evolving the SOC, designing security software, detecting and responding to incidents, strengthening controls, coaching early-career engineers, and delivering through Canonical's agile process.
Experienced SOC practitioners who can engineer solutions, and senior developers with a security background, are both regarded as strong fits. The posting also appreciates familiarity with security frameworks, security architecture and hands-on offensive or defensive work, though none of these is mandatory.
