Job Description
Canonical is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for a globally remote, full-time post. The work centres on running infrastructure at scale with Python-defined infrastructure as code, reaching from metal through containers into applications. The company runs several hundred clusters spanning private cloud, Kubernetes and application workloads for clients on both physical hardware and public clouds, and it is pushing automation further with a general operator pattern and model-based operations.
The posting treats automation as a true software engineering challenge rather than a quick hack. Engineers need a scientific outlook on operations guided by metrics and code, plus the ability to understand the stack end to end, from bare metal networking and the kernel up to serverless platforms and open source applications. The team designs and runs OpenStack clusters, Kubernetes platforms and software-defined storage, and supports devsecops for applications built on that infrastructure. Upgrades are pushed through so customers stay on current, well-supported releases.
Candidates should be fluent in Python, keen on the full open source stack, running from metal up through containers, and comfortable with high-pressure operations for mission-critical services. Strong people skills, a curious and accountable attitude, and international travel to company events of up to two weeks, twice a year, are part of the picture.
