Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Card Loan Platform team, operating in a remote capacity. Affirm provides predictable payment solutions for consumers with transparent terms and no hidden fees. In this position, the selected professional will work on the decision engine supporting the organization's card products, handling distributed systems challenges that require processing payment data in milliseconds to manage real-time authorizations, originations, and refunds. This role suits engineers experienced in building high-availability services who want to drive technical strategy and mentor junior team members. The contributor will collaborate with product management, analytics, design, legal, and accounting groups to shape the card loan lifecycle and attribution strategy. The position involves designing microservices, writing robust APIs, and optimizing existing codebases for long-term scalability. New hires will participate in an in-person onboarding experience, and the role offers remote flexibility within designated Canadian provinces. Total compensation includes base pay, equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and technology, as well as comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, and execute technical projects in alignment with business and product objectives
  • Design and develop large-scale, highly available microservices and event-driven architectures with robust APIs and data models
  • Partner with analytics, product, design, legal, and accounting teams to deliver card loan lifecycle and attribution strategies
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, analyze system performance, and optimize code for scalability
  • Guide junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of software development or engineering experience
  • Familiarity with system design, architecture, cloud platforms, and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with relational or non-relational database systems, web frameworks, and RESTful API development
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages including Kotlin or Python
  • Residency in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan
