Wise is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II - Contacts Team - Java for an on-site position in London. This role focuses on the core Contacts team, which handles the functionality for adding, finding, and organizing recipients across the platform. The team manages everything from the backend architecture securing millions of bank accounts to search algorithms, local payment integrations, and the user-facing interfaces.
This position suits an engineer who enjoys working in an agile, autonomous setting alongside product managers, designers, and analysts. The professional in this role will guide the technical strategy for the backend systems supporting recipient interactions and help expand the recipient management product. Because these services are critical to daily operations, system reliability is paramount.
Wise provides a starting salary ranging from GBP 111,000 to 145,000 per year, alongside RSUs consisting of a $75,000 new hire grant and a $37,500 annual refresher. Candidates should note that this job requires on-site work based out of the London office.
Responsibilities
- Drive the technical direction for backend solutions supporting the recipient user experience
- Scale up and build out the recipient management product
- Design, deploy, and maintain clean RESTful APIs
- Write testable code while following Test Driven Development principles
- Participate in code reviews and uphold best coding practices
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and analysts in an agile environment
Requirements
- Proven experience delivering results and getting things done
- Background working with large-scale distributed systems
- Professional knowledge of Java 8 or higher
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including query optimization and schema design
- Strong product mindset with a focus on customer experience and data-driven decision making
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional peers to solve problems
