This remote, full-time position focuses on building and scaling backend systems, data pipelines, and APIs that drive paid marketing channels, conversion tracking, and campaign executions across platforms like social media, search engine marketing, display, and streaming audio. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of product, engineering, and marketing, and is comfortable driving projects from initial design to production rollout.

This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys tackling high-throughput technical challenges and optimizing for performance, cost efficiency, and reliability. Responsibilities include shaping technical strategy, building robust abstractions, and mentoring junior team members. Instacart operates under a Flex First approach, granting employees the flexibility to work remotely from home, an office, or anywhere else while staying connected through regular in-person events.

Responsibilities

  • Solve underlying technical problems and build reusable abstractions to reduce complexity across the codebase.
  • Collaborate with product and marketing stakeholders to shape requirements and balance technical trade-offs.
  • Mentor junior team members through technical guidance, onboarding support, and code reviews while driving automation improvements.

Requirements

  • Possess five to eight years of software engineering experience with expert-level Python proficiency for building data pipelines, APIs, and backend services.
  • Demonstrate a history of leading end-to-end technical projects including architecture, experimentation, and deployment.
  • Bring deep expertise in data integration tools such as SQL and Snowflake alongside workflow orchestration utilities like DBT and Airflow.
  • Show proven capability in designing for high performance, scalability, and robust observability solutions including tracing, metrics, and logging.
  • Display strong communication abilities alongside strategic product thinking and cross-team alignment skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience building automation frameworks and reusable abstractions to boost system extensibility and team output.
  • Advanced familiarity with ad platform APIs from providers like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Snapchat Ads.
  • Deep comprehension of performance marketing KPIs such as ROAS, CAC, LTV, and CPA alongside digital marketing operations.
  • Background in chaos engineering, cloud cost optimization, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with legacy system modernization, security-by-design methodologies, and AI-assisted development tools.

Core Skills

Benefits

  • New hire equity grant along with annual refresh grants.
  • Market-competitive compensation package tailored to the employee's permanent work location.
  • Flex First remote work policy allowing employees to choose their workspace while engaging in regular in-person community events.
