Job Description

Instacart operates an essential grocery delivery and pickup platform that connects customers with local stores while offering flexible earning opportunities for personal shoppers. The company embraces a Flex First work model, permitting staff members to execute their duties remotely from home, an office, or other locations.

The Marketing Enablement and Technology division sits inside the marketing organization to construct the internal platforms, APIs, and data infrastructure supporting paid acquisition channels. As a Senior Software Engineer focused on the Paid MarTech pod, you will design and scale the backend services and extract-transform-load workflows that handle campaign execution, performance tracking, and third-party integrations across social, search, display, video, and audio advertising channels.

This position suits an experienced backend specialist who can independently spearhead end-to-end technical initiatives, enhance system performance and cost efficiency, and build robust abstractions. You will collaborate directly with product and marketing stakeholders to shape technical strategy, balance delivery timelines against business value, and provide mentorship to junior engineering colleagues through code reviews and onboarding support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complete technical projects independently across APIs, backend services, and data pipelines from architecture design to production rollout
  • Architect scalable solutions focused on reliability, high throughput, and cost efficiency for performance marketing operations
  • Identify underlying problems to create appropriate abstractions that simplify complexity and improve codebase reusability
  • Partner with product and marketing stakeholders to influence feature requirements and navigate trade-offs between delivery timelines and technical complexity
  • Mentor junior staff members through code reviews, onboarding guidance, and technical support

Requirements

  • Possess five to eight years of software engineering experience
  • Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in Python for constructing data pipelines, APIs, and backend services
  • Bring a proven background in leading projects end-to-end through implementation, design, experimentation, and deployment
  • Show deep familiarity with SQL, Snowflake, and data integration technologies
  • Have experience working with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow and DBT
  • Exhibit the capability to build comprehensive observability solutions including logging, metrics, and tracing

Qualifications

  • Experience building automation frameworks and reusable abstractions to boost system extensibility
  • Advanced familiarity with large-scale conversion tracking mechanisms and ad platform APIs like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Snapchat Ads
  • Understanding of digital marketing metrics and operations including ROAS, CPA, LTV, and CAC
  • Experience handling cloud cost optimization, disaster recovery planning, and chaos engineering
  • Background in managing technical debt and modernizing legacy systems
  • Familiarity with security-by-design principles and production incident response
  • Ability to utilize artificial intelligence tools for productivity enhancements

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Market-competitive compensation package
  • Eligibility for a new hire equity grant
  • Eligibility for annual equity refresh grants
