In this role, the engineer will manage the ClickHouse storage layer, build ingestion pipelines using event streams and Temporal, design schemas for analytical and historical workloads, and establish technical direction for data access across product teams and public APIs. The ideal candidate incorporates artificial intelligence natively into their daily engineering practice, possesses a strong background in data-intensive systems, and has backend development experience in Go or a comparable language.
CircleCI provides varying base pay ranges depending on geographic location, such as $165,000 to $225,000 USD for the US General range and scaling higher for specific metro zones or Canadian regions. Responsibilities
- Develop systems using AI-native methodologies as the default starting point for problem-solving
- Own, harden, and optimize the ClickHouse-based storage layer, including schema design and query performance tuning
- Construct and maintain ingestion pipelines from event streams and durable workflows built on Temporal
- Evolve the data platform into the primary route for historical queries across product teams and public API consumers
- Implement indexing, caching, and tiered storage strategies to maintain high performance under heavy production loads
- Lead complex architectural design discussions and document decisions independently
- Monitor operational metrics such as ingestion lag, query latency, and data correctness using Honeycomb, Datadog, and Rollbar
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience building and operating production backend systems
- Hands-on data experience with ingestion pipelines, event-driven architectures, or analytical and time-series datastores
- Proficiency in Go or strength in a comparable language with a willingness to work in Go
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts including delivery guarantees, idempotency, backpressure, and failure recovery
- Demonstrated track record of treating latency, reliability, and correctness as core design requirements
Qualifications
- Experience working with ClickHouse or other columnar databases
- Familiarity with React and TypeScript for occasional product surface work
