Process Street is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for a full-time, remote role that helps shape an AI-first product and engineering practice. The company, based in San Francisco, offers software that helps customers design, record, automate and track routine work, and it serves over 3,000 customers. Team members are spread across nine time zones and typically communicate in writing rather than in meetings.
The engineer would design and refine server-side systems, build scalable interfaces and AI-supported services, and take features from concept to release. Front-end work involves React together with supporting state libraries, while back-end services run on Scala, Play and Postgres. The role also includes building internal tools, prompt libraries and engineering workflows, and using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code and Codex to write, debug and restructure code across parallel sessions. The engineer would help decide how the team works with AI and how codebases should be organized so that agents can work in them. In time, the senior engineer might guide a small group of two or three developers.
Work follows the Shape Up method, with six-week build cycles and two-week cooldowns for maintenance and exploration. Product managers hand over problem statements rather than detailed specifications, which means the engineer must craft solutions independently. Applicants need seven or more years of software experience, substantial back-end work in Scala or comparable languages such as Java, Ruby or C#, and strong JavaScript and React skills. Experience growing software-as-a-service products and designing systems rather than just implementing tickets is important. Candidates should be located in a time zone between UTC-6 and UTC+2. Familiarity with functional programming and building developer tools is a bonus.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain server-side services in Scala, Play and Postgres
- Create scalable interfaces and AI-supported APIs and services
- Take features from concept through to release
- Build React interfaces with Chakra and Storybook
- Develop internal tools, prompts and AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Improve speed across the front end, back end and AI pipelines
- Set standards for building software with AI
Requirements
- Seven or more years of software engineering experience
- Substantial back-end experience in Scala, Java, Ruby or C#
- Strong JavaScript and React skills
- Background scaling software-as-a-service products
- Hands-on use of Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or similar AI coding tools
- Systems design ability, beyond feature implementation
- Clear written communication for a distributed, asynchronous team
- Living in a time zone between UTC-6 and UTC+2
Qualifications
