This remote position for a Senior Staff Engineer - Mobile/Kotlin is a full-time role offering a base salary range between USD 163,000 and 265,000 per year.
In this technical leadership capacity, you will drive the architecture and end-to-end execution of complex mobile features for the Fanatics App, which incorporates free-to-play games, live events, and e-commerce. You will operate both strategically and hands-on, establishing engineering guidelines and partnering with product and design stakeholders to scale the mobile ecosystem. The role suits an experienced Android platform and Kotlin Multiplatform expert who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and enjoys mentoring engineers.
Key responsibilities include guiding system design, leading incident resolution through on-call rotations, championing software quality, and collaborating across iOS and Android teams to share code and features. Occasional travel to company offices, conferences, meetings, or team-building activities may be required.
Responsibilities
- Shape team strategy and influence organizational direction by leveraging understanding of the industry, product, and roadmap
- Lead end-to-end technical execution of complex features and systems from ideation to deployment
- Define and enforce engineering principles, guidelines, and best practices
- Drive Android platform and mobile ecosystem decisions using Kotlin Multiplatform
- Partner with product, design, and other stakeholders for high-impact technical choices
- Collaborate with iOS and Android leaders to share best practices and code across apps
- Participate in an on-call rotation to lead incident resolution and swift remediation of critical software issues
- Conduct code reviews, elevate code quality, and steer team planning discussions
- Mentor and coach engineers at all levels across the team
- Travel occasionally for company offices, conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building scalable, performant Android apps
- Excellence in Kotlin Multiplatform, Compose Multiplatform, and other Android technologies
- Demonstrated ability to drive consensus and mentor others in coding and architectural strategies
- Systems-level functional knowledge or understanding of Backend Client API, Platform Engineering, and Client-supporting systems in Marketing and Analytics
- Knowledge of observability practices including logging, monitoring, and tracing in native apps
- Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences including engineers and executives
- Team-first mentality and ability to thrive in a high-growth environment
Qualifications
- Experience sharing code across multiple native and cross-platform apps using native libraries or Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform
- Experience with webviews and stitching together coherent app experiences across multiple technologies
- Experience in the sports industry, e-commerce, or gaming
- Ability to work in diverse legacy and greenfield codebases in different languages and environments
