Job Description
Canonical is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer for a full-time post that can be done from anywhere in the world. The engineer helps operate OpenStack and Kubernetes environments, storage platforms and open source applications for customers, across both on-premises and public cloud estates, using DevOps methods. The team looks after hundreds of private cloud and Kubernetes clusters, which means handling incidents, monitoring systems, spotting trouble early and feeding improvements back into the upstream products.
Canonical looks for engineers who see automation as a proper software discipline, approach operations scientifically with metrics and code, and can take on mission-critical services for large international customers. The company says it will train people on its core technologies, which cover OpenStack, Kubernetes, security standards, Kubeflow, Kafka, OpenSearch and databases. Offerings get updated as the field advances, so the work keeps tracking current open source infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is a Python-fluent engineer who is curious about the whole open source stack, running from bare metal up through containers and can operate services for household-name clients. Trips abroad for company gatherings, each lasting as long as two weeks, take place twice a year.
