Smile Digital Health is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join its team on a full-time, remote basis in Canada. In this position, the professional will guide the creation, investigation, and delivery of platform enhancements alongside solutions for intricate client-reported problems.

Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues affecting healthcare clients
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable software solutions within the platform
- Drive root cause analysis to minimize recurring problems
- Offer technical leadership during incident responses, troubleshooting, and high-priority client escalations
- Review, refactor, and optimize existing systems for better performance and maintainability
- Participate in code reviews to uphold engineering standards
- Mentor junior and intermediate developers through guidance and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to architectural discussions and guide technical direction
- Perform risk assessments regarding potential bug impacts on production systems
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures
Requirements
- At least seven years of professional software development experience
- Proficiency with Java, Spring, SQL, Git, and distributed systems
- Demonstrated background in troubleshooting and resolving issues within complex production settings
- Solid comprehension of software architecture, design patterns, scalability, and maintainability
- Experience leading technical initiatives from requirements to delivery
- Capacity to analyze ambiguous problems, evaluate risk, and make independent technical decisions
- Familiarity with debugging, logging, monitoring, and observability tools
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Proven mentorship and technical leadership background
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Background in healthcare technology, HL7, or FHIR
- Experience using integration frameworks such as Apache Camel
