Job Description

The company is currently hiring a Software Engineer, Agent Optimization & Evaluation to lead its agent optimization and evaluation platform on a remote basis. In this role, the engineer will build systems that measure and improve agents' impact on engineering velocity, including Reddit-specific evaluation environments, intelligent model orchestration, and feedback loops that learn from production usage. Reporting to Kyle Maxwell, the professional will collaborate closely with Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and Developer Productivity teams to design Reddit's agent optimization harness for evaluating, benchmarking, and improving AI agents across real software engineering workflows. The position offers a base salary range of USD 109,800 to 325,000 per year, along with eligibility for equity in the form of restricted stock units and various benefits.
Responsibilities
- Design and construct Reddit's agent optimization harness for evaluating, benchmarking, and improving AI agents across real software development workflows
- Develop specialized evaluation environments that accurately gauge agent performance against meaningful engineering tasks
- Build systems supporting offline replay, automated evaluation, synthetic task generation, regression detection, and human-in-the-loop feedback
- Engineer model routing and orchestration strategies aimed at optimizing quality, latency, and cost
- Define performance metrics and experimentation frameworks to measure developer productivity and engineering velocity
- Create developer tooling to analyze agent behavior, investigate failures, and accelerate iteration cycles
- Partner with Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and Developer Productivity teams to integrate agent capabilities into current engineering workflows
- Contribute to the long-term strategy for a flexible, model-agnostic agent platform that grants control over AI capabilities and economics
Requirements
- Bring 5 to 12+ years of engineering experience
- Demonstrate extensive background in building and shipping large-scale production software systems
- Possess experience in designing evaluation, experimentation, benchmarking, or measurement systems for AI, search, developer platforms, or complex distributed systems
- Show a strong comprehension of modern LLMs, AI agents, and associated engineering deployment systems
- Have experience constructing systems that optimize across quality, latency, reliability, and cost dimensions
- Exhibit solid software engineering fundamentals along with a passion for building production-quality systems
- Operate independently within ambiguous environments while driving technical direction for strategic initiatives
- Display robust cross-functional collaboration skills across engineering, infrastructure, and platform organizations
