Job Description
Canonical has openings for Software Engineers in its Data Infrastructure group, which is building an automation suite for data solutions on multiple clouds and on-premise. The group covers the full spread of data stores, from big data and NoSQL to cache layers, analytics and structured SQL engines. The OpenSearch sub-team focuses on enterprise automation for search and analytics platforms such as OpenSearch and Elasticsearch. Roles are open at several levels, and the company will match the position to each candidate's background.
The OpenSearch team automates the running of OpenSearch, covering fault-tolerant replication, TLS, install steps and more, and advises other Canonical teams on how the data system behaves. The emphasis is on building and automating platform features rather than analysing the information stored in them. The engineer works within an international group, writes idiomatic Python to create features, and debugs issues while engaging with upstream communities in public.
Proven hands-on Python development and experience with distributed systems are required. Candidates need a degree-level study in computing, a STEM subject or a closely related area. Useful extras include operating search and analytics engines such as Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana and OpenSearch, Linux administration, public or private cloud platforms such as OpenStack, and running Kubernetes for persistent data services. Candidates in European, Middle Eastern and African time zones can be considered.
Canonical is a global software company behind Ubuntu, with more than 1,000 colleagues across over 70 countries. It has been remote-first since 2004.
