The Software Delivery Section within the Infrastructure Platforms Department focuses on improving the safety, reliability, and customer experience of the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle across SaaS and self-managed environments.
GitLab is hiring a Software Engineer for Delivery: Release to join its team in India. This role suits backend developers who possess an interest in operations and infrastructure. The position involves collaborating alongside Site Reliability Engineers to build release management tooling, frameworks, and operational processes. The Software Delivery team tracks performance using the Mean Time to Production metric. GitLab operates as an equal opportunity employer.
Responsibilities
- Build new tools and frameworks to automate release workflows
- Contribute to the Release Framework by developing new GitLab release features
- Collaborate with individual engineering teams to define and implement faster release solutions
- Create scalable frameworks for engineering code
- Assist teams with code instrumentation and identifying areas that need better observability
- Work alongside peer Infrastructure Platforms groups to manage the effect of application code on user-facing products
- Communicate release schedules clearly across teams
- Build monitoring and alerting capabilities to track release velocity
- Spot process bottlenecks and implement improvements
- Take part in the Release Manager rotation
Requirements
- Strong coding background with mandatory proficiency in Ruby or Go, including a willingness to learn Ruby
- Experience working on large-scale systems
- Experience optimizing Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment pipelines along with related processes and tooling
- Interest in containerization, cloud platforms, and Infrastructure as Code tools
- Background in application and systems observability
- Collaboration mindset with curiosity and a demonstrated ability to learn
- Product development mindset when building new components
