Job Description
This Software Engineer role focuses on edge AI, with particular attention to Inference Snaps. The aim is edge AI solutions that are easy to deploy, secure and customise. The engineer designs and builds application packages for AI and ML inference that are tuned to particular silicon, running on targets from embedded boards to larger gateways. Linux is central to daily work, and the posting is pitched at a developer who enjoys open source, Linux and edge computing.
Responsibilities include developing and maintaining open source inference packages, experimenting with Ubuntu Core, and showing edge AI solutions at industrial quality. The engineer secures how AI inference platforms are deployed on Linux, builds optimised local inferencing, and reviews upstream and colleague code. Collaboration, peer review, good integration and unit testing, and maintainable code are valued by the team. Trips of 2 to 4 weeks may be needed for in-house and outside events.
Applicants should have three or more years of professional coding in Go or C++, plus experience building applications on Linux. A broad grasp of Linux as a development platform is expected. Experience or interest in container platforms, snap packaging, Debian or RPM packaging, shell scripting, continuous integration, local inference frameworks, and GPU or NPU hardware is welcome. A degree-level study in computing, a STEM subject or a closely related area.
Canonical, a growing global software firm, collaborates with open-source communities to deliver Ubuntu. Its services help businesses cut costs, work more efficiently and tighten security.
