Job Description

Day-to-day duties involve breaking down multi-phase projects alongside your manager and tech lead, handling technical constraints, and partnering with analytics, product, and design teams. You will maintain artifact availability, participate in on-call rotations, monitor operational metrics, and assist with candidate interviews. New hires typically start at the beginning of the compensation range.

This position is suited for developers with over a year and a half of engineering background who want to scale distributed systems and collaborate with a global team. Affirm operates as a remote-first workplace, with new team members invited to an in-person onboarding program.

Responsibilities

Break down large projects into manageable tasks delivered across multiple phases with guidance from leadership
Collaborate with product, design, and analytics partners on ideation, technical constraints, and risk trade-offs
Support artifact operations and availability through metric monitoring, escalations, and on-call duties
Engage in team growth activities, including participation in the engineering interview process
Navigate large codebases, perform code reviews, and provide constructive feedback to peers

Requirements

At least 1.5 years of professional software engineering experience
Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems
Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and tools such as AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
