Pinterest is hiring a Software Engineer II for tvScientific, a CTV advertising platform designed for performance marketers that automates and optimizes television advertising. This individual contributor role focuses on building and scaling data infrastructure to support a data-intensive environment. The position suits a data engineer with expertise in cloud services, big data processing, and cross-functional collaboration.
The person in this role will develop data architectures on AWS using Spark and Scala, evolve core data pipelines to support business growth, and implement knowledge graphs accessible via batch processing and APIs. Success in this position is measured by the reliable delivery of optimized data assets, robust automated data quality checks, and effective teamwork alongside data science and product divisions.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement data infrastructure within AWS utilizing Spark and Scala
- Develop and scale core data pipelines to accommodate business growth
- Organize and store data in optimal engines and formats balancing performance and cost
- Partner with cross-functional groups to build data solutions aligned with business goals
- Build and deploy knowledge graphs featuring batch processing and API accessibility
- Optimize AWS resource utilization while engineering for scale
- Coordinate closely with product and data science teams
Requirements
- Production data engineering background
- Proficiency in Spark and Scala, with specific experience building data infrastructure in Spark using Scala preferred
- Experience delivering major technical initiatives and reliable large-scale services
- Experience building APIs supported by relationship-heavy datasets
- Familiarity with cloud warehouses, data lakes, and storage formats
- Strong command of AWS services
- Advanced SQL expertise for data extraction and manipulation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to integrate AI into daily workflows to enhance speed and quality
- Demonstrated skill in critical evaluation and verification of AI-assisted output
- High accountability for data privacy, data security, and final deliverables
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Background in the adtech industry
- Experience executing data governance practices encompassing metadata management, access controls, and data quality
- Strong familiarity with privacy-by-design principles and managing sensitive or regulated data
- Familiarity with data table formats including Delta and Apache Iceberg
- Prior experience establishing a data engineering function
- Demonstrated history of collaborating with data science teams on machine learning pipelines
