Job Description
Twilio is currently hiring a Software Engineer (L3) Email to join the Twilio SendGrid division. This remote-first position involves building, deploying, and maintaining large-scale distributed systems that routinely process massive email volumes. The engineer will focus on modernizing backend platforms, enhancing Go-based microservices, and managing dual-cloud architectures across Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The person in this role will collaborate with product management and technical leadership to deliver high-velocity features with low latency, maintain rigorous code quality through testing and reviews, and implement infrastructure as code. Occasional in-person travel for project meetings, team gatherings, or customer sessions may be required, and the position is not open to candidates located in CA, CT, NJ, NY, PA, or WA. Responsibilities
- Design and ship reliable features handling critical traffic with minimal end-to-end latency
- Collaborate with product and technical leaders to break down complex requirements into iterative milestones
- Conduct code reviews and enforce testing standards across unit, integration, and component levels
- Manage and improve AWS and Azure cloud configurations using Terraform
- Implement standardized metrics, alerts, and distributed tracing for core data pipelines
- Identify and resolve technical debt, architectural bottlenecks, and single points of failure
- Mentor junior team members and lead technical sprint planning
Requirements
- At least four years of professional software engineering experience building and running backend services at scale
- Practical background using AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code for code generation, testing, and debugging
- Production experience writing clean, concurrent Go, Java, or Python code
- Experience deploying and operating workloads in cloud environments such as AWS and Microsoft Azure
- Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and environment parity
- Understanding of distributed datastores, caching layers, and asynchronous event streaming platforms like Kafka
- Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals, data structures, and self-healing cloud architectures
Qualifications
- Prior experience operating high-throughput applications within containerized systems including Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with database migration paths from traditional or on-premises datastores to managed instances like AWS Aurora
- Experience implementing OpenTelemetry or distributed tracing across decoupled microservices
- Direct background managing network topology constraints, proxy layers, or mail transfer agent protocols
