Job Description
Canonical is developing a new family of Ubuntu-based container images meant to make open source applications easier to deploy. The images are free to use, carry long-horizon security pledges and are designed for performance, security and ease of use. The company intends the work to be open, with room for community contributions. This EMEA-based job suits a software engineer who wants to help shape a container product while it is still growing.
The engineer builds and maintains a growing set of container images, working with teams inside and outside Canonical to keep quality high and the Ubuntu experience consistent. A big share of the work is automating continuous integration and delivery for these images. Other tasks include writing tools and tests that check security-compliance checks and cloud-native suitability, taking part in code and architecture reviews, and improving Python- and Go-based image-building tools.
The post calls for software development knowledge and experience in collaborative projects. Familiarity with CI/CD platforms, GitOps workflows, building container images and at least one orchestration tool is required. Python skill, plus experience with Linux administration and package management, is expected. Written and spoken communication, and a record of shipping timely, high-quality software, count as much as technical skill. Up to 15% of time may be spent on internal and external events.
Canonical is a global software company behind Ubuntu. It has been remote-first since 2004 and employs more than 1,000 people in over 70 countries.
