Job Description
This full-time Software Engineer position is marked on-site, and the listing gives no city. The engineer builds and revises general-purpose applications and specialised utility programs. The starting point is working out what users need and whether a software answer can be delivered within the available time and budget, after which the engineer designs or tailors software that makes client operations run more smoothly.
Teamwork is part of the day. The engineer speaks with systems analysts, engineers and programmers to settle the system design and to collect information on project limits, abilities, performance targets and interfaces. Repairing faults in existing code, adjusting it for new hardware, speeding it up, and testing that a design behaves as intended all fall within the remit.
Data plays a significant role. The engineer stores, retrieves and reworks data to judge what a system can handle, and may plan or contribute to database structures within an application area. Mathematical and scientific models help forecast the effects of design choices. Where required, the engineer oversees other programmers. The posting does not mention the employer, its products or the size of the team.
