Job Description
Canonical is recruiting a Solution Architecture Manager to run a team of field engineers who design private and public cloud solutions for customers. The job blends people leadership with hands-on technical presales. Managers in this group are expected to be strong engineers who can debug problems and join sales discussions.
The group's catalogue includes on-site offerings including OpenStack, MicroCloud and Ceph, plus products that can be hosted on-site or in public clouds, for example Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark and PostgreSQL. Engineers deploy, test and then pass each finished solution to the support or managed-services group once a project ends. The manager handles line management and career guidance, grows engineering talent, speaks for the team technically, and builds collaboration with other groups and customers.
Candidates should be comfortable with cloud concepts and tools including Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure and Ceph, with working knowledge of Linux and networking. Hands-on presales experience and a record of coaching and mentoring engineers are essential. The role is home based and covers one major time zone, with trips that can take up to a quarter of working time for customer meetings, internal events and tech conferences.
Canonical is a global software company behind Ubuntu. Its remote-first model dates back to 2004, and this post can be done from home by anyone working within the same time zone as their team.
