Pinterest operates a digital platform where global users discover creative ideas, plan projects, and find inspiration. The commercial legal team currently seeks a Senior Commercial Counsel to support inbound and supplier agreements.
This position requires an independent professional capable of managing a heavy volume of complex transactions, including SaaS, AI, and cloud infrastructure contracts. The role involves guiding cross-functional stakeholders—such as engineering, security, privacy, finance, procurement, and IT—through major enterprise negotiations, particularly with cloud service providers like AWS. Ideal candidates will possess deep knowledge of data privacy, intellectual property, and commercial risk, along with the ability to translate legal concepts into practical guidance.
The person in this role will also help operationalize contract terms, establish internal contracting processes, and build scalable systems for global commercial agreements. While based in Chicago, the position requires physical presence in an office for collaboration one to two times every six months. This full-time opportunity is open to applicants residing in the United States, and final compensation packages include both a base salary and equity eligibility.
Responsibilities
- Independently negotiate a high volume of complex transactions covering SaaS, AI, compute infrastructure, data processing, and professional services
- Lead legal support for enterprise-level cloud negotiations with AWS and other cloud providers, addressing pricing, committed spend, service levels, and exit provisions
- Counsel internal teams on risks related to data security, privacy, artificial intelligence, and intellectual property within supplier agreements
- Collaborate with engineering, finance, procurement, security, and privacy departments on cloud needs forecasting and strategic decision-making
- Advise on critical legal and business terms including uptime commitments, business continuity, subcontracting, and compliance
- Operationalize financial, commercial, and legal terms by building practical internal processes to track milestones and audit provisions
- Assist the business in evaluating alternative technologies and contracting methods to enhance efficiency and innovation
- Partner with internal stakeholders to develop playbooks, processes, and systems that scale the global commercial contracting function
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- Minimum of 8 years of experience working in a legal environment
- Extensive background in negotiating complex SaaS, cloud services, technology infrastructure, and commercial transactions
- Familiarity with cloud computing business models, contracting structures, pricing frameworks, and committed spend arrangements
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of in-house legal experience at a technology company
