Nimble Gravity is seeking a remote Sr. Data Architect, Databricks Champion to lead platform modernization and lakehouse engagements. This position acts as the main technical representative for the company's Databricks partnership, blending hands-on technical architecture with client-facing leadership.
This role suits professionals who excel at guiding commercial opportunities, designing governance frameworks, and mentoring engineering teams. Responsibilities include building scalable data pipelines, supporting the sales process, and collaborating with executives to transform business objectives into practical technical strategies.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing production lakehouse environments, managing cloud migrations, and preparing platforms for artificial intelligence workloads. Nimble Gravity operates as an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture for lakehouse implementations, platform migrations, and modernization programs, with a preference for Azure.
- Design Delta Lake, medallion, and Unity Catalog patterns to balance performance, cost, and governance.
- Manage technical direction for migrations from legacy platforms into Databricks, Fabric, and Power BI ecosystems.
- Establish standards for data ingestion, orchestration, continuous integration and deployment, testing, observability, and FinOps.
- Architect systems for artificial intelligence readiness, incorporating feature pipelines, Mosaic AI, and model serving.
- Participate in discovery sessions, facilitate architecture workshops, and define technical solutions for prospective opportunities.
- Review statements of work for technical accuracy, risk management, and commercial clarity.
- Build reusable reference architectures, accelerators, and playbooks.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison to Databricks for partner programs, co-sell motions, and field engagement.
- Identify delivery risks early and collaborate with project managers to keep delivery on schedule and budget.
- Mentor engineers and lead internal enablement sessions.
Requirements
- Current Databricks Champion certification in good standing, accompanied by a shareable credentials wallet link.
- At least 10 years of experience in data architecture or data engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on Databricks experience.
- Proven history of delivering production lakehouse implementations, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Databricks SQL.
- Strong proficiency in Spark using PySpark and SQL, along with data modeling and performance tuning skills.
- Experience designing security and governance measures such as access controls, data lineage, and PII handling.
- Depth in cloud platforms, ideally Azure, alongside working knowledge of AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
Qualifications
- Additional Databricks certifications such as Data Engineer Professional or Solutions Architect.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
- Direct experience working with MLflow, Mosaic AI, generative artificial intelligence, and agentic workloads.
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform and Asset Bundles.
- Professional services or consulting background encompassing scoping, estimation, and statement of work contribution.
