Job Description

PatientPoint is recruiting a senior engineering manager to oversee software delivery across its device-based product lines. Those lines include tooling for field operations and device management, patient engagement software used in exam rooms, displays in waiting areas, and internal back-office platforms. The devices involved run on Android or BrightSign hardware in clinics and other on-site locations. The job is remote within the US and involves travel two to four times a year.

The manager supervises a mixed group of senior leads and individual contributors, and is personally responsible for hiring, evaluating performance and guiding career paths. The posting expects the manager to stay technical, reviewing code, contributing to implementation and taking over technical direction when a team needs it. Other duties include balancing priorities across at least three concurrently active product areas, taking part in cross-company architecture review forums with a fleet-oriented viewpoint, and coordinating closely with product and design leaders. The team mixes full-time and contract engineers located both onshore and offshore.

Candidates should be current in Android engineering, especially Kotlin, and have worked with custom ROMs, kiosk-mode hardware and fleet operations. Exposure to AWS services, JavaScript or TypeScript, and React is also valued. The profile fits a seasoned engineer who has moved into leadership while staying close to the code. The company presents itself as a digital health firm that reaches 30,000 physician offices with behavior-changing content delivered at key moments of care.

Responsibilities

  • Drive engineering results across field operations tooling, exam-room systems, waiting-room displays and internal platforms
  • Supervise senior leads and individual contributors, covering recruitment, evaluations and growth
  • Inspect code, set technical standards and help directly on implementation work
  • Promote AI-assisted and agentic methods within teams and in product features such as automated diagnostics
  • Align priorities and cross-team dependencies across three or more active areas
  • Join cross-company architecture forums and offer a device-fleet perspective
  • Support engineers' progression and work alongside product and design leads
  • Oversee a mixed team that includes full-time staff and contractors, both onshore and offshore
  • Raise staffing and resourcing gaps for device areas with engineering leadership

Requirements

  • Over ten years in software engineering, with at least two years leading engineers
  • Hands-on contributions within the last one to two years, such as shipping code, reviewing pull requests or fixing defects
  • A coding assessment forms part of the interview process
  • Native Android development in Kotlin that follows current practices
  • Background with AOSP, bespoke Android builds, rooted or kiosk devices, APK rollout or Android upgrade projects
  • Device platform work that goes beyond mainstream consumer apps
  • Java alongside Kotlin, plus JavaScript or TypeScript and React front ends
  • Building software for hardware fleets that are connected, managed or deployed remotely
  • Leading engineers spread across several simultaneous products or technical areas
  • Managing people, including hiring, coaching and performance reviews
  • Working within device limits such as constrained memory and storage, unreliable connections, remote updates and multiple hardware or OS generations
  • Supporting remote device fleets with staged rollouts, health monitoring, remote troubleshooting and update or rollback plans
  • Backend work for device fleets using Kotlin or JVM services, Node.js or serverless designs
  • Using AI coding assistants and encouraging teams to adopt them
  • Working knowledge of cloud services and APIs for connected devices
  • Managing mixed teams of employees and contractors

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience
  • Familiarity with BrightSign, SignageOS or Broadsign
  • Understanding of BLE, GATT and MQTT, plus AWS IoT Core and Device Shadow
  • Jetpack Compose skills
  • Contribution to an architecture governance process such as ARB or RFCs
  • Work in product-trio or product-operating-model setups
  • Involvement with AI features such as automated diagnostics or self-healing device operations
  • Experience with agent tooling such as MCP-based access, Bedrock AgentCore or Strands Agents
  • Work on Kotlin Multiplatform or other cross-platform native architectures
  • Measuring delivery performance with DORA metrics
  • Security work covering vulnerability management, application security or reviews for distributed and device systems
  • Healthcare or other regulated-sector background
  • Experience guiding teams through organizational change

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Pay considered competitive
  • Adjustable paid leave
  • Hybrid working arrangements
  • Access to mental and emotional wellbeing support
