Job Description

Pinterest operates a visual discovery engine utilized by millions of individuals worldwide to gather ideas, organize plans, and discover inspiration. The company currently seeks a Senior Security Software Engineer to join its Security Operations group. This position centers on architectural leadership and the development of core platforms designed to govern cloud infrastructure, automate security compliance, track vulnerabilities, and embed security reviews directly into engineering pipelines.

The role suits an experienced engineer capable of transforming intricate security demands into scalable guardrails and paved paths across AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and software development lifecycles. Selected candidates will combine hands-on infrastructure work with architectural ownership, steering cross-functional initiatives while ensuring the reliability and adoption of security-focused capabilities. The organization incorporates artificial intelligence to support engineering analysis, streamline tasks, and amplify team impact. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their foundational skills, problem-solving methodologies, and collaboration with AI during the evaluation process.

This full-time position operates under the company's flexible working model, requiring in-person collaboration at an office location one to two times every six months, which allows the employee to reside anywhere in the country. Relocation assistance is not available for this role. Qualified applicants based in the United States will be considered.

  • Build and design production-ready services, policy-as-code, and infrastructure-as-code to govern cloud assets and software deployment pipelines.
  • Develop standardized guardrails for identity and access, cloud configurations, infrastructure changes, service hardening, and CI/CD security.
  • Enhance vulnerability identification, triage automation, prioritization, and remediation accountability.
  • Lead multi-functional engineering initiatives from initial problem formulation through technical design, execution, and adoption.
  • Define engineering guidelines and offer technical mentoring to improve the effectiveness and quality of security systems, leveraging AI where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Experience building, designing, and operating complex production systems within security engineering, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of Terraform, infrastructure-as-code, and AWS security architecture, preferably within multi-account or large-scale environments.
  • Background in areas such as cloud governance, vulnerability management, security automation, developer tooling, compliance platforms, or CI/CD security.
  • Proven ownership of intricate technical projects, including trade-off evaluation and architecture definition.
  • Software engineering capabilities covering system design, APIs, observability, reliability, testing, and safe operation of security-critical systems.
  • Ability to communicate risk clearly and influence technical decisions through design reviews and mentorship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
