Pinterest operates a global visual discovery platform relied upon by millions of users seeking creative concepts and life planning ideas. The engineering team is currently executing a multi-year modernization initiative focused on data infrastructure, shifting toward streaming ingestion mechanisms, open table formats, and consolidated workflows. To support this large-scale transformation, the company is seeking a Sr. Technical Program Manager, Data Engineering to join the team in Seattle.
This professional role suits experienced program managers who can lead multi-quarter initiatives, navigate complex technical dependencies across engineering organizations, and communicate strategic updates clearly to both technical specialists and senior leaders. The position requires familiarity with modern data architectures, such as Kafka, Flink, and Iceberg, alongside practical experience integrating generative artificial intelligence tools into program execution and workflow management.
Day-to-day responsibilities involve orchestrating cross-functional migrations, tracking infrastructure efficiency programs, building tracking dashboards, and maintaining safety-by-design standards when utilizing AI. While the position is physically based in Seattle, employees operate under a flexible working model that requires in-office presence for collaboration one to two times every six months, allowing candidates to reside elsewhere in the country.

- Drive execution across multiple producer and consumer teams while handling timelines, dependencies, and risks
- Construct and maintain program reporting and dashboards to provide leadership with visibility into progress, metrics, and savings
- Oversee the tracking function for data infrastructure efficiency portfolios in coordination with stakeholders and finance partners
- Convey technical tradeoffs and program status to various audiences ranging from engineers to senior executives
- Utilize generative artificial intelligence to draft program artifacts, streamline intake triage, synthesize status reports, and surface risks
- Adhere to company artificial intelligence policies regarding security, data privacy, governance, and output validation
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of technical program management experience steering complex cross-functional programs, particularly within streaming systems, large-scale data platforms, or infrastructure modernization
- Understanding of the core concepts behind large-scale data platforms, storage layers, workflow orchestrators, and batch or streaming pipelines
- Competency in creating dashboards, analyzing data, and applying insights to support business decisions
- Track record of collaborating with senior engineering and business stakeholders in visible settings
- Familiarity with operating under artificial intelligence governance guidelines, risk assessment, and output verification
- Ability to manage ambiguity and shifting priorities within dynamic roadmaps
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Prior exposure to data platforms, streaming technologies like Kafka and Flink, or open table formats such as Iceberg
Core Skills
Benefits
