Job Description
Canonical is hiring a Staff Engineer for Development Lifecycle, a fully remote, full-time role that can be based in Europe, the Middle East, Africa or the Americas. The engineer leads an initiative to make Ubuntu suitable for automotive, aerospace, factory robotics and similar tightly regulated fields.
The initiative is more than paperwork. It involves investment in workflows, engineering, tooling, analysis, working habits and people. The engineer converts regulatory, compliance and certification requirements into concrete targets, and then into engineering practices that teams take on board. The work involves challenging engineering culture across the company, bringing agile methods into line across projects and groups, and helping define how Canonical works.
The engineer also sets qualification criteria that uphold engineering quality standards, decides how quality should be measured, and works with engineering leaders on continuous improvement. Outside the company, the role builds strategic ties with outside standards bodies and partner organisations, and joins the industrial standards group.
The ideal candidate brings solid experience running engineering and process work in an agile setting, knowledge of quality standards like ISO/IEC 25010 or the ASPICE automotive standard, a record of developing people and teams, and experience leading successful compliance and certification programmes.
