Job Description

GitLab operates an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, helping organizations enhance developer efficiency, streamline operations, mitigate security risks, and speed up digital transformation. Serving over 50 million registered users and more than half of the Fortune 100, the company builds tools that shape modern software development. In this role, the Staff Product Manager for Tenant Scale within Infrastructure Platforms will guide the product direction for supporting large and complex customers as they expand across departments, projects, and regions.

This position focuses on making tenant data more portable, scalable, and prepared for unified deployment across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and eventually Self-Managed environments. The work sits at the intersection of product strategy, customer requirements, and infrastructure. Over the first year, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering peers to define requirements, establish investment cases, shape quarterly and annual plans, and transition concepts into practical deployment models. Beyond a single group, the scope involves acting as a recognized authority on multi-tenant and cellular SaaS architecture, facilitating tradeoff discussions, mentoring fellow product managers, and representing the organization in external forums.

The role operates on a remote basis and suits professionals with extensive experience in technical domains such as platform architecture, cloud services, and scalability. Candidates should possess strong skills in cross-functional collaboration, technical translation, qualitative customer research, and business case development.

Responsibilities

  • Determine product strategy and direction for tenant scale and unified deployment capabilities across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and future deployment models.
  • Formulate quarterly and annual plans for platform unification and tenant portability by breaking down large epics into minimal valuable changes.
  • Establish requirements for the unified deployment platform to support tenant hosting within a unified deployment unit.
  • Partner with engineering teams to translate infrastructure constraints and platform requirements into actionable product direction.
  • Collaborate across platform product teams and manage with influence to align initiatives spanning multiple groups.
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with internal and external customers to analyze patterns regarding isolation, compliance, regional deployment, and operational readiness.
  • Develop business cases for tenant scale and unified deployment investments, assessing build, buy, and partner options alongside isolation costs.
  • Facilitate discussions regarding scalability, tenant encapsulation, deployment consistency, and platform unification while escalating blockers cleanly.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into priorities, documentation, and error-budget-informed product plans for distributed teams.
  • Represent the organization as a subject matter expert on cellular architecture and tenant scale during customer calls and industry events.
  • Coach fellow product managers on technical stack details, customer validation, and direction updates while sharing ownership across a common work pool.

Requirements

  • Experience managing product work in technical domains such as platform architecture, infrastructure, software delivery, scalability, or cloud services.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical engineering teams on system design and platform constraints.
  • Familiarity with SaaS and platform-based scaling concepts including multitenancy, horizontal scalability, workload isolation, and production readiness.
  • Experience handling complex operational, compliance, or regional deployment requirements with customers or stakeholders.
  • Skill in converting ambiguous technical issues into clear strategies, priorities, and actionable execution plans.
  • Expertise in qualitative customer interviewing and product validation techniques.
  • Experience formulating business cases that weigh build, buy, and partner alternatives against market landscapes.
  • Background working cross-functionally in distributed environments using iteration and influence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex infrastructure topics to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • Recognition as a thought leader in a relevant domain through speaking engagements, writing, or event representation.
  • Transferable experience derived from engineering, technical support, or adjacent product roles related to large-scale platforms.
