In this position, you will help the company safely manage high-traffic periods and major shopping events by translating user demand into actionable resource plans.
The role involves building and maintaining statistical models that link traffic inputs to resource outputs such as CPU, memory, and database infrastructure across different environments. You will steer technical strategy on a yearly timeline, work alongside product and analytics departments, mentor team members, and ensure operational excellence through proper monitoring and incident response processes. Responsibilities
- Define technical strategy for the team over a one-year horizon and connect it to business-impacting initiatives
- Partner with product management, design, and analytics groups to manage technical trade-offs and risks
- Act as a technical multiplier by advocating for strong operational processes and architectural solutions
- Oversee operational availability by establishing monitoring, playbooks, alerting, triage rotations, and policies
- Establish code review and design standards to foster a team culture of quality and ownership
- Guide and mentor engineers through regular feedback and leadership by example
Requirements
- Have eight or more years of experience designing, developing, and launching large-scale backend systems using languages like Python or Kotlin
- Bring a demonstrated track record of building highly available distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes
- Possess experience supporting the scaling of major sales events such as Black Friday Cyber Monday or Prime Day
- Demonstrate hands-on tuning experience with autoscaling, multi-threading, and CPU or memory for compute workloads
- Have experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecations through a formal technical and execution plan
- Communicate effectively with a global engineering team through strong verbal and written skills
