Job Description
Discord is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Enterprise Platform team to establish a brand-new software engineering discipline from the ground up. Operating remotely, this founding role focuses on transforming enterprise infrastructure into self-service software by eliminating manual tickets and consoles. The ideal candidate will build reusable primitives, clear APIs, and self-service portals using a platform-as-a-product mindset.
Discord operates a multiplatform and multiplayer communication service heavily utilized by gaming communities to connect before, during, and after gameplay. In this position, the engineer will manage device fleets through code, automate identity layers, and establish deployment pipelines and infrastructure-as-code standards. The role suits an independent technical leader with a founder's temperament who enjoys ambiguity and wants to shape foundational architecture rather than maintain an existing backlog.
The compensation includes a base salary between USD 248,000 and 310,000 per year, alongside equity and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Manage endpoint management and hardware provisioning by shifting device configuration into versioned, API-driven infrastructure
- Automate identity systems, connection management, account workflows, and SSO or SCIM integrations through version control and CI/CD
- Establish deployment pipelines, CI/CD standards, and Infrastructure-as-Code patterns for safe internal system changes
- Design and release APIs, command-line interfaces, and portals that combine primitives into automated, auditable workflows
- Define technical architecture and direction by authoring RFCs and documentation for future team members
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of experience building and running production software and systems at a technology company
- Track record of taking ownership of ambiguous projects from start to finish
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Rust, and TypeScript
- Hands-on background with identity and access management including SSO, SCIM, RBAC, and OAuth/OIDC
- Fluency in CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tooling like Terraform
- Experience managing endpoint and fleet infrastructure as an API-driven engineering surface at scale
- Possession of a platform-as-a-product mindset with a history of building self-service tools that users adopt
Qualifications
- Practical experience utilizing Okta, Intune, or Jamf
- Background with identity and access governance tailored for AI-agent, workload, or non-human principals
- Previous employment experience at a high-growth consumer technology company featuring a highly technical workforce
