Job Description
Turing is hiring a Strategic Project Lead for software engineering data programmes. The listing is a full-time, on-site position in the United States. The lead owns the production machinery behind these programmes, converting demanding research requirements into dependable output on quality, throughput, contributor performance, schedules and spend.
Programmes may cover supervised coding demonstrations, multi-file repository tasks, agent trajectories, benchmarks, RL environments, agent trajectories, code review and scored rubric evaluations. Coordinating hundreds of remote engineers is typical, and direction can change quickly when research priorities shift. The posting describes operations leadership with a real technical bar. The lead must read code, interpret tests, judge quality metrics, and push back on any workflow or rubric that fails to deliver the intended signal. Acting as principal engineer on every programme is not required. The core task is building a system that repeatedly produces strong technical work.
The lead is the main contact for researchers and programme managers at frontier AI labs, giving clear reporting and anticipating needs before they are raised. Internally, the lead runs quality control across annotation, traces errors to their causes, drives process changes that speed work and cut cost, and writes documentation that outlasts any single project.
Candidates should bring backgrounds in advisory work, finance, early-stage businesses or other high-pressure operations, and should have managed complex projects with many stakeholders. Analytical and communication strength is needed to spot bottlenecks, design measurement plans, and explain fixes to exacting clients in plain terms. Comfort with high-profile customers and an appetite for detailed process work at scale are required. Listed pay is a base of $120,000 to $200,000 with total target compensation of $195,000 to $300,000 at the programme lead level, and a base of $150,000 to $280,000 with total target compensation of $300,000 to $500,000 at the senior level, including salary, variable pay and equity.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery and quality across each programme, from scope to handover
- Build pipelines from customer specification through to final output
- Find bottlenecks and fix them by adjusting sequencing, instructions, incentives and review capacity
- Hold daily coordination meetings to head off problems
- Act as lead contact for researchers and programme managers at AI labs
- Recruit, onboard, train and manage subject experts working in distributed workspaces
- Design incentive and performance systems for large contributor groups
- Examine datasets for patterns, anomalies and systematic errors, and resolve root causes
- Write playbooks covering onboarding, quality benchmarks and escalation
Requirements
- Track record leading complex projects with many stakeholders
- Analytical and communication skill for production and client work
- Comfort managing demanding, high-profile clients
- Appetite for process optimisation at scale
- Ability to read code, interpret tests and push back on a flawed workflow or rubric
