Job Description
General Assembly, an education company known for practical courses spanning web development, data, design and business, is hiring a Technical Lead Learning Experience Designer. The engagement is a contract of two or three months, calling for about 30 hours per week while a project is active. The posting covers the US edition of the role, which is 100 percent remote.
The lead designs, develops and adapts instructor-led programs for corporate, technical and professional learners. Subjects range across engineering practice, data work, DevOps and MLOps, and programs can also reach into AI, digital transformation and workplace productivity. The lead owns the client-facing design process from discovery through delivery, including requirements, learning outcomes, timelines, scope and resourcing, and it covers the full range of learning materials such as slides, labs, simulations, assessments and facilitator guides.
The work includes practical AI-enabled activities built around tools people use at work, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. AI is central to many engagements, yet the core task is building scalable programs that meet learner needs and client goals. The lead also manages subject matter experts, instructors, vendors and freelancers, prepares instructor enablement material, reviews learning impact data, and helps convert custom material into reusable components.
The posting asks for five or more years in instructional design or learning experience design, with a strong record of instructor-led content and project management. Familiarity with Bloom's Taxonomy, ADDIE and adult learning principles is expected, along with practical comfort with today's AI tools and the willingness to attend calls across several time zones. Experience with Python, APIs or GitHub is a plus.
For US candidates, pay is $45 to $55 USD per hour. The posting lists separate rates for other regions, including European candidates at 23 to 35 euros per hour.
