Founded in 1945 by educators, the company provides insurance and financial products to educators across more than 4,100 school districts nationwide, holding over $12 billion in assets and trading publicly on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol HMN.
In this role, you will manage technology releases across various applications and teams by owning schedules, deployment communications, readiness activities, change-management documentation, and post-release reviews. You will partner with business stakeholders, development teams, Scrum teams, project leaders, and infrastructure resources to plan, test, approve, deploy, and validate releases. The ideal candidate is highly organized, possesses technical knowledge, and can direct off-hours deployment activities while balancing risks, competing priorities, and dependencies.
This position involves coordinating scheduled releases, emergency fixes, and out-of-cycle deployments while facilitating planning meetings to establish scope, timelines, sequencing, and dependencies. You will develop release recommendations, maintain the consolidated release calendar, participate in Change Advisory Board sessions, and direct off-hours deployment tasks.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate scheduled releases, emergency fixes, and out-of-cycle deployments across multiple teams.
- Run release-planning meetings to determine timelines, scope, sequencing, dependencies, and deployment needs.
- Draft and maintain release documentation, including schedules, deliverables, component lists, validation steps, and rollback plans.
- Manage the change-ticket lifecycle, ensuring proper documentation, testing instructions, and approvals are complete.
- Maintain the centralized release calendar, configuration plans, deployment schedules, and stakeholder updates.
- Participate in Change Advisory Board meetings and implementation-readiness reviews.
- Direct off-hours release operations, issue escalation, status reporting, and resolution.
- Coordinate mock deployments, pre-production checks, production rollouts, and post-production verifications.
- Collaborate with technical teams to stage release artifacts, provision infrastructure, and automate build processes.
- Lead post-release review meetings to capture lessons learned and drive ongoing process improvements.
Requirements
- Over five years of technology experience, including one to four years of project or software release coordination across multiple teams.
- Experience managing software releases of varying complexity, size, scope, and business impact.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, change management processes, and production deployments.
- Hands-on software development background utilizing object-oriented programming concepts.
- Experience handling code merges, branching strategies, build processes, and deployment tasks.
- General understanding of Agile development methods and ITIL practices.
- Availability to participate in scheduled off-hours, weekend, or emergency release operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Background coordinating releases within a complex enterprise setting.
- Familiarity with automated build mechanisms, CI/CD pipelines, and release-management software.
- Experience supporting Change Advisory Board workflows and IT governance controls.
- Experience provisioning infrastructure or application environments.
- Knowledge of source control, configuration management, and production validation procedures.
