Job Description
Canonical is hiring a Software Engineering Manager for its Ubuntu Enablement work. The post is remote and full-time, and sits in the Device Delivery group, which brings Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Core to people through devices that hardware makers ship with the software already installed.
The manager leads a team of software engineers delivering projects that enable Ubuntu on OEM hardware. The environment moves quickly and rewards strong time management, detailed knowledge of Linux internals, low-level debugging, clear thinking and practical problem-solving. Technical issues are worked through with device makers, board designers, chip suppliers and hardware vendors, and incoming requests from customers around the world are ranked by priority. The manager partners with the desktop, core system, kernel and security engineering groups and sets direction on working methods, standards, tooling and good practice.
The best fit is a manager with a background in technical Linux work, ideally Ubuntu or Debian, who puts quality and disciplined testing first. Strong communication in English and Chinese, written and spoken, is required, and the job includes travel to Europe, the United States, China and Taiwan.
