Debswana Jobs 2026: How to Apply and Where Vacancies Appear

Short answer: Debswana does not run one open jobs board for every role. According to the company's own careers FAQ, senior and managerial vacancies in Group Projects & Technical Services go on its online careers system, and all other vacancies are advertised in local Botswana newspapers when they arise. Apply only through the channel named in the official advert. Never pay anyone to "secure" a Debswana job.
Debswana Diamond Company is a 50/50 joint venture between the Government of Botswana and De Beers. It runs the Jwaneng, Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa mines, plus a Corporate Centre in Gaborone. The company calls itself the largest private-sector employer in Botswana, with more than 5,000 employees and about 5,000 contractors. Below you'll find where real vacancies appear, how the hiring process works, the training routes for school leavers and graduates, and how to spot fake recruitment offers.
Where Debswana vacancies are advertised
Debswana careers website: managerial roles in Group Projects & Technical Services are listed in the job search section of the official careers site, reached from debswana.com.
Local newspapers: all other vacancies, including many technical, medical, artisan and support roles, are advertised in Botswana newspapers when posts open.
Official social media: Debswana links to its Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram pages from its website. Check that a page is the real one before you trust a post.
Job aggregators: local job sites often repost Debswana adverts. Use them to get alerts, then confirm the role and closing date against the original advert before you apply.
Tip: the advert tells you how to apply (email, the e-recruitment system or post), the closing date and the required documents. Follow it exactly. Debswana says applications sent by post are acknowledged only if you are shortlisted.
How the Debswana recruitment process works
Debswana describes its recruitment cycle as ten sub-processes. For applicants, the stages you will see are:
Advert: line management asks for the post to be filled, and once internal checks are done the vacancy is advertised.
Pre-screening: HR compares each applicant's profile with the role profile in the advert, so match your CV to the stated requirements.
Shortlisting: line managers draw up a shortlist from the applicants who pass screening.
Interviews: the recruitment team contacts shortlisted candidates and invites them to a series of interviews.
Job-fit assessments: tests matched to the role follow the interviews.
Offer: the strongest candidate receives the offer.
How you'll know your application arrived
Email applications get an automated confirmation email.
Applications through the e-recruitment system get an automated confirmation letter by email.
Postal applications: only shortlisted candidates are contacted, by email or phone.
Training routes: scholarships, internships and apprenticeships
If you don't yet have experience, Debswana's training programmes are often a better way in than permanent posts. The company lists:
"O" Level scholarships
In-service scholarships for employees
Graduate development programmes
Internships
Apprenticeship training and artisan development programmes
Supervisory and leadership development programmes
Intakes are not fixed to a public calendar, so watch the official channels and newspapers. For national programmes outside Debswana, see our guide to the Botswana internship programme and how to apply.

The job market at Debswana right now
Expect competition to be tight. Debswana cut output by about 27% in 2024 and planned a further cut to around 15 million carats in 2025 because of weak diamond demand (Reuters via MINING.COM). In June 2026 Al Jazeera reported retrenchments among contractor staff at its operations, and unions said more workers were moving to short-term contracts (Al Jazeera).
Over the longer term, the Jwaneng Underground Project matters. Debswana is pushing ahead with plans to take Jwaneng underground and extend the mine's life to 2054. Its managing director has said open-pit mining will reach its economic limit around 2034. Mine leaders have said underground skills are scarce, and young Batswana have been sent to train in Zambia (The Executive Botswana). Underground mining, ventilation, rock engineering and maintenance skills are likely to stay in demand.

How to apply: step by step
Find the official advert on Debswana's site, in a newspaper or on its verified pages. Note the reference, closing date and application method.
Check the requirements, such as qualifications, years of experience, professional registration and licences, before you apply.
Tailor your CV to the role profile in the advert, because HR pre-screens against it. Our free resume builder and CV format guide can help.
Write a short cover letter that links your experience to the duties listed. See how to write a job application letter.
Attach certified copies of the documents the advert asks for, often your Omang, certificates and transcripts.
Submit before the deadline using only the stated method, and keep your confirmation email.
Prepare for interviews and assessments, including safety-focused questions. "Put Safety First" is the first of Debswana's six values.
Avoid Debswana recruitment scams
Debswana adverts never ask you to pay for application forms, "processing", medicals or training slots. Any fee request is a red flag.
Be wary of WhatsApp or SMS offers, Gmail or Yahoo addresses, and promises of a job "without interview".
For HR questions, Debswana gives an Employee Services Centre contact: +267 364 8850 or desc@debswana.bw. Use it to check whether a message really came from the company.
Report suspected fraud to the Botswana Police Service.
