Job Description
Zopa is hiring an Android Engineer to join its Mobile Platform team in London. The app is currently built with React Native, and the company is expanding its native work in Kotlin and Swift, moving the Android experience toward a more fully native build. The post is full time and hybrid, with two to three days a week in the office.
The Mobile Platform team maintains the shared infrastructure, tooling and engineering standards beneath the customer-facing app. Its remit covers the architecture of the app, reusable modules, the component library, monitoring, developer tools and build pipelines. Product squads stay responsible for their own customer journeys and the services they run, while the platform team provides the foundations they build on.
The engineer will help move the codebase away from React Native and onto native Android, working in Kotlin on sound architecture. Other duties include raising performance and robustness by locating bottlenecks, tackling technical debt and fixing defects, and mentoring engineers who are learning native Android. The engineer also works hand in hand with product, design and backend colleagues on features that use native platform capabilities. The final team placement will be confirmed late in the interview process.
The ideal candidate has shipped production Android apps written in Kotlin, including releases to the Google Play Store, and cares about quality, testing and maintainable code. Experience with mobile security, CI/CD for mobile, or collaboration with iOS and React Native engineers would be a useful addition.
