Robinhood is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Canada to join its regulatory and product counsel team. In this position, the attorney will report directly to the Senior Director and Deputy General Counsel, Crypto, partnering closely with compliance and product departments to support feature rollouts and manage regulatory challenges.
This opportunity suits an experienced, resourceful legal professional who functions well in dynamic environments and can act as a proactive business partner. The role is based at the Toronto office, requiring in-person attendance at least three days per week.
The successful applicant will tackle complex legal inquiries, address regulatory developments concerning Canadian digital assets, and interact directly with domestic securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations. Responsibilities span end-to-end guidance for digital asset services, identifying and minimizing regulatory risks, and collaborating with internal colleagues alongside external counsel. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills to explain legal matters clearly to non-legal audiences.
Compensation for this position includes equity ownership, bonus programs, performance-driven compensation multipliers, and a base pay range between $144,500 and $170,000 CAD for the Toronto area. Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive legal guidance on retail cryptocurrency services and offerings
- Collaborate with internal groups and external counsel to resolve legal requests promptly
- Identify regulatory risks and formulate mitigation strategies aligned with product goals
- Maintain compliance with applicable legal frameworks
- Monitor and advise on cryptocurrency regulatory shifts within Canada
- Communicate directly with Canadian securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations
- Build collaborative relationships to support new product introductions
Requirements
- Hold a J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada
- Maintain membership in good standing with at least one Canadian province or territory bar
- Bring seven or more years of relevant professional experience gained at a law firm, government agency, technology firm, brokerage, fintech company, or financial services organization
- Possess familiarity with legal frameworks governing crypto, securities, derivatives, money transmission, or sanctions
- Work from the Toronto office at least three days per week
