Job Description
Turing is hiring a Backend Engineer for its Enterprise AI division to build and operate the platforms that allow businesses to run artificial intelligence systems in production. Located in New York City near Madison Square Park under a hybrid work model, this role reports directly to the Head of Engineering, Enterprise AI. The company bridges the gap between frontier AI labs and Fortune 500 enterprises by creating data environments, benchmarks, and agentic AI systems for mission-critical workflows.
This position requires an individual who will design and manage core backend services, APIs, agent orchestration, model routing, identity controls, and usage metering. Candidates must possess significant production software experience rather than solely working with early prototypes or notebooks. Professionals joining this team will take features from architectural design through testing, deployment, and ongoing operation while helping scale multi-tenant environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs supporting agent orchestration, model routing, enterprise integrations, permissions, evaluation, and usage metering
- Develop production systems that utilize tool use, agent loops, retrieval, and prompt or agent versioning
- Build and maintain integrations connecting to document stores, ticketing systems, and data platforms
- Construct data models, identity systems, permissions, and service boundaries for secure multi-tenant operations
- Own product features completely through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, observability, and maintenance
- Create reusable connectors, services, and agent capabilities across different customer deployments
Requirements
- At least six years of professional experience as a backend or full-stack engineer working on production SaaS or enterprise platforms
- Deep technical background in Python or service engineering, API design, asynchronous job systems, and production operations
- Hands-on expertise with enterprise identity and permissions protocols including OAuth, OIDC, SAML, or SCIM
- Demonstrated experience with multi-tenant data modeling and access control
- Practical background building production LLM features involving tool use, agent loops, retrieval, or prompt versioning
- Proven track record of launching LLM features for paying customers and managing production systems post-launch
Qualifications
- Prior experience working on internal agent frameworks
- Experience implementing SOC 2 or comparable compliance controls
- Background building integrations tailored for financial services or other regulated sectors
- Experience deploying applications built on OpenAI or Anthropic production APIs
Core Skills
Benefits
- Work directly at the forefront of artificial intelligence development with leading AI research labs
- Contribute to cutting-edge research and present findings at major conferences such as ICLR, ICML, and NeurIPS
- Collaborate alongside engineering peers who bring professional experience from major technology companies like Google, Meta, and Amazon
- Operate with the speed, individual ownership, and impact typical of a startup environment
