GitLab provides an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by millions of users and numerous top organizations to accelerate software delivery and improve security.

In this role, you will work primarily with Rust to build property graphs from software development lifecycle and code data, integrating with ClickHouse, NATS JetStream, and the Data Insights Platform. You will also participate in on-call rotations, contribute to system design, and collaborate asynchronously across product, data, infrastructure, security, and AI teams.

  • Contribute to system design discussions focusing on reliability, scalability, and maintainability for analytical graph workloads
  • Improve operational maturity by enhancing metrics, logging, runbooks, and alerts, and by participating in on-call rotations

  • Utilize AI-assisted development workflows responsibly and share effective practices with the team
  • Participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and pairing
  • Contribute across the stack with occasional Ruby or frontend tasks when necessary

Requirements

  • Professional experience building and maintaining production backend systems
  • Proficiency in at least one modern backend language and strong interest in Rust
  • Comfort working in a low-process, high-ownership environment with asynchronous communication across time zones

Qualifications

  • Prior Rust experience or clear evidence of ability to ramp up quickly in a performance-sensitive codebase
  • Exposure to distributed data or analytics systems such as OLAP databases, messaging queues, or change data capture pipelines
  • Interest in graph data modeling and query patterns
  • Practical experience or strong interest using AI tools in day-to-day development
