Job Description
Canonical has an opening for a Business Services Team Manager, an executive role that can be carried out from home in most countries, though not where the company runs its own offices, such as London, Taipei or Beijing. The team handles travel, logistics, events, scheduling, expense policy and general administration. Success depends on careful coordination, planning, sound decisions, budget control, purchasing, reporting and people management.
The group organises company gatherings that bring hundreds of staff from over 80 nations together four times a year. Its tasks include buying travel and managing logistics, ensuring gatherings run smoothly and safely, and dealing with visa problems and other travel disruptions. The team also checks expense claims independently, applying the same standards across teams and countries, including to senior staff and to newcomers alike. Collectively these duties affect tens of millions in operating costs.
Team members provide executive support to leaders in many departments. That covers arranging meetings, preparing monthly reports, approving travel and expenses under delegated authority, liaising with suppliers, and carrying out small projects. The group influences every other team and joins each company event from venue selection through to safety review.
The ideal manager has strong judgement about money and policy, good interpersonal skills, and the confidence to hold people to account. Drive, a history of exceeding expectations, and the ability to work across cultures and handle heavy workloads quickly are all sought.
