Job Description
Zoox is hiring a full-time CAE Engineer for occupant safety within its vehicle safety group. The company builds fully autonomous vehicles and the infrastructure needed to launch them at scale. The engineer runs occupant safety simulations across virtual and physical stages, working toward sign-off and certification. The company aims to keep riders as safe as possible in its driverless vehicles.
The engineer owns occupant safety computer-aided engineering and helps weigh it against other vehicle integration priorities. Tasks include building vehicle, dummy and restraint models, organising model builds, matching virtual results to physical tests, and supporting overall structural analysis across several attributes. The engineer runs virtual design verification plans, proposes countermeasures, writes analysis reports, and helps present findings at project gateways. Clear analytical input goes to the safety attribute team so vehicle-level safety targets are achieved.
The engineer collaborates with colleagues from robotics, controls and vehicle engineering. The role includes leading small groups and holding weekly progress meetings. The posting describes a startup setting in which people can have a real impact on the finished product.
The ideal candidate holds a master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and knows the crash and consumer safety regimes, including FMVSS, US NCAP, IIHS, ECE and EU requirements. Substantial experience in occupant safety CAE with LS-DYNA is expected, plus familiarity with BETA CAE, Oasys, LS-OPT and finite element dummy models. Strong analytical and written communication skills are essential, and basic Python coding is a bonus.
