Job Description
The Mozilla Foundation operates as a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a better technology future through open design and human-centered alternatives. Because the Chief Executive Officer increasingly focuses outward on the Board, funders, partners, and public dialogues, the organization has established a new Chief of Staff to the CEO position. This role serves as a strategic partner, internal proxy, and trusted leadership extension to ensure the CEO maintains alignment across the internal organization.
This position does not oversee the Executive Leadership Team, direct daily operations, manage schedules, or hold direct reports. Instead, the individual acts as an influential partner who shapes strategic priorities, filters critical matters to be decision-ready, and coordinates cross-functional execution. The role suits professionals with extensive background collaborating at the executive level who excel at navigating ambiguity, driving complex initiatives without direct authority, and operating effectively out of the spotlight.
Selected candidates will partner with the Executive Leadership Team, Investment Committee, and strategic advisors. Responsibilities during the initial six months include establishing collaborative working relationships, defining operational boundaries, transforming high-level priorities into clear strategic outcomes, and ensuring issues reach the CEO with proper context and actionable recommendations. The position requires dedication to the mission of the Mozilla Foundation and the ability to work across various time zones and travel as needed for board meetings and key gatherings.

- Build a robust working relationship with the CEO to align on priorities and scope of delegated authority
- Partner with the Executive Leadership Team to establish shared priorities and smooth cross-functional execution

- Prepare the CEO thoroughly for Board meetings, public speaking engagements, and partner discussions
- Steward alignment between the Investment Committee and organizational strategy

- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft decision-ready briefs
- Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities
- Disciplined prioritization skills that balance long-term plans with urgent issues
- Experience supporting board governance, fundraising, or high-stakes external relationships
- Commitment to the mission of the Mozilla Foundation and an open internet
- Capacity to work across time zones, outside standard hours when necessary, and travel for major events
