Job Description
GitLab is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to join the Runway team, focusing on building and maintaining infrastructure and developer tooling for the engineering organization. GitLab provides an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by over 50 million registered users and a large share of the Fortune 100 to accelerate software delivery and improve developer productivity. In this role, you will help advance a Kubernetes-based platform, mature GitOps operations, and expand infrastructure as code adoption across the business.
This hands-on position bridges infrastructure, automation, and developer experience by assisting application teams in deploying and operating their services. Key duties include managing production Kubernetes clusters, extending Argo CD workflows, and writing reusable Terraform modules. You will also monitor platform health, handle incidents, enforce security and compliance standards, and integrate platform features with CI/CD pipelines.
The base salary range for applicants residing in the United States is USD 115,000 to 194,000 per year, with final compensation depending on education, experience, skills, location, and market data. Responsibilities
- Operate and improve production Kubernetes clusters across cloud environments by handling upgrades, scaling, and lifecycle reliability
- Own and extend Argo CD GitOps workflows through ApplicationSets, sync policies, and standardized deployments
- Write, review, and maintain reusable Terraform modules utilizing clear state management and drift detection practices
- Monitor platform health, respond to incidents, conduct post-mortems, and enhance availability, performance, and observability
- Collaborate with application teams for service onboarding while creating documentation, runbooks, and self-service tooling
- Implement role-based access control, network policies, and secrets management to satisfy security and compliance needs
- Integrate platform capabilities into continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines
Requirements
- Experience operating Kubernetes in production environments
- Experience working with at least one major cloud provider such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
- Experience using Argo CD or comparable GitOps tooling like Flux
- Proficiency with Terraform for cloud infrastructure provisioning, covering remote state, workspaces, and module design
- Ability to write scripts and automation using Python, Bash, or Go
- Familiarity with Helm for Kubernetes package management
- Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, ingress, and service mesh concepts
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting systems and collaborating across teams
Qualifications
- Experience with managed, multi-cluster, or multi-region Kubernetes
- Experience with service meshes, policy as code, observability, or Kubernetes-native infrastructure as code
