Job Description

Affirm is seeking a Compliance Manager to oversee compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program on a remote basis. In this role, the individual will independently guide risk-based decisions across card marketing, onboarding, servicing, disputes, and digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Working closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams, the professional will navigate uncharted regulatory territory and address novel product features throughout their development lifecycle.

The position requires applying solid judgment under relevant consumer financial regulations while reviewing marketing materials, disclosures, and user experiences. The chosen candidate will investigate root causes for card compliance matters, implement durable remediation solutions, and assist with regulatory exams and bank audits. Furthermore, the role involves updating the control inventory, constructing compliance training materials, and serving as the primary subject matter expert for card-related regulatory questions.

This role suits professionals with extensive regulatory experience in financial services who thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced settings. Affirm operates as a remote-first organization offering flexible time off, stock purchase options, monthly stipends for wellness and tech, and fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents.

Responsibilities

  • Manage compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program across marketing, onboarding, wallets, disputes, and servicing
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Operations during the entire product development lifecycle
  • Review and approve card marketing, disclosures, and user experiences to verify regulatory adherence
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and execute sustainable remediation for card compliance issues such as declines and adverse action notices
  • Collaborate with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk departments to prepare for regulatory examinations and bank audits
  • Maintain the compliance risk assessment and control inventory to identify and resolve coverage gaps
  • Design and update compliance training and reference materials for card regulatory rules
  • Provide expert guidance on emerging card features and highlight risks early in the product lifecycle

Requirements

  • Over 8 years of professional experience in a financial services compliance advisory role with a Bachelor's degree, over 6 years with a Master's degree, or over 3 years with a PhD
  • Deep working knowledge of EFTA and TILA or the CARD Act as applied to card products
  • Ability to operate independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with minimal oversight
  • Experience managing issues from root-cause analysis through to durable remediation
  • Demonstrated capability to build credibility and advise stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Operations

Qualifications

  • Holding relevant compliance certifications
  • Familiarity with TISA and UDAAP regulations
  • Hands-on experience working directly with major card network rules including Visa and Mastercard

Benefits

  • Full coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums for employees and dependents
  • Monthly spending stipends covering tech setups as well as health and wellness choices
  • Flexible time off combined with a generous holiday calendar
  • Employee stock purchase plan to acquire company shares at a discount
