Job Description

Monzo is a financial technology company on a mission to reshape traditional banking by offering personal, joint, teen, and business accounts, alongside credit, savings, investments, and pension consolidation. The organization operates within the United Kingdom and seeks a Controls Product Senior Manager to join the newly established Controls Product and Enablement team within the first line of defence.

This position sits at the intersection of product management, risk, data, and engineering. The selected individual will act as the product lead for Monzo's core risk lifecycles, including issues, risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), controls, policies, and regulatory traceability. Rather than acting solely as a writer of requirements documents, this practitioner will function as a hands-on builder. Responsibilities include prototyping low-code tools, leveraging artificial intelligence models, examining data pipelines, and architecting automated workflows to transform manual risk processes into self-service solutions. The role involves managing two direct reports who specialize in data and automation.

This opportunity suits an adaptable professional who thrives in ambiguity, thinks from first principles, and possesses both risk and control domain expertise combined with direct technical delivery skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the controls product roadmap, defining the vision, strategy, and backlog for internal risk products using tools such as SmartSuite, Zango, Looker, and native AI integrations
  • Directly design, prototype, and build automated workflows, API integrations, and low-code or no-code solutions from problem statements to working MVPs
  • Champion AI adoption by experimenting with large language model prompting, custom agents, and automated evidence-gathering tools
  • Drive the transition from annual point-in-time assessments to continuous, automated real-time risk intelligence monitoring
  • Partner with first-line risk owners and risk partners to deliver clear write-once guidance and intuitive user interfaces for effortless self-service
  • Direct and guide two specialized data and automation direct reports to maintain momentum across the delivery plan

Requirements

  • Experience thinking like a product manager with a focus on user problems, prioritization, user experience, and shipping MVPs quickly
  • Hands-on technical capability with SQL, Python, APIs, workflow tools, or low-code environments to build working prototypes independently
  • Practical curiosity regarding artificial intelligence and large language models for automating tasks
  • Understanding of fundamental risk and control concepts such as control design, RCSAs, and issue management
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and turn messy operational problems into scalable digital solutions
  • Experience leading teams through change programs within financial services controls functions

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Salary between GBP 85,000 and 115,000 per year
  • Incentive awards tied to performance
  • Flexible working hours
  • GBP 1,000 annual learning budget for books, training courses, and conferences
  • Macbook and extra work-from-home setup support for fully remote workers
