Figma is seeking a Data Platform Engineer to join the Data Engineering team on a full-time basis. This position can be based at a United States hub or performed remotely within the country. The incoming engineer will help construct foundational infrastructure supporting AI-driven features and data operations, working at the intersection of infrastructure, data science, and machine learning. This role suits professionals looking to shape early-stage machine learning systems and data platforms that enable self-service analytics and production artificial intelligence.
The person in this position will create shared data architecture, streamline testing and deployment workflows, and develop self-service utilities for data pipelines. Responsibilities also include tracking and upgrading system reliability, establishing clear data ownership and lineage, and collaborating across teams such as Data Infrastructure, Security, Product Engineering, and Research. Candidates should possess strong software engineering capabilities in Python alongside extensive experience with distributed systems or production data platforms. Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the shared data platform supporting analytics, data science, and product development
- Enhance local development, testing, CI/CD, staging, and deployment workflows
- Develop self-service tooling and pathways for building, deploying, and operating data pipelines
- Monitor and manage the performance, reliability, and incident response of critical data systems
- Establish clear data definitions, ownership, lineage, and reliability standards
- Partner with cross-functional groups including Data Engineering, Data Infrastructure, Security, and Product Engineering
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating production data platforms, developer infrastructure, or distributed systems
- Strong software engineering skills using Python or a similar language
- Experience improving developer workflows such as local development, testing, orchestration, CI/CD, or deployment
- Experience working with modern data infrastructure including cloud data warehouses, transformation frameworks, workflow orchestrators, infrastructure as code, and observability tools
- Demonstrated track record of owning shared systems end-to-end and leading cross-functional projects
